Frequently asked

What is today’s Hijri date?
The page above shows today’s Hijri date computed using the Umm al-Qura calendar — the official Saudi calendar used for religious observances. The exact date may differ by a day in countries that rely on local moonsighting (e.g., Pakistan, India, Bangladesh).
How is the Hijri date calculated here?
We use the browser’s built-in Intl.DateTimeFormat with the islamic-umalqura calendar. Modern browsers ship calibrated tables maintained by ICU/Unicode. No external API call — calculation is instant and offline.
When is the next Ramadan?
The countdown above shows the days remaining to 1 Ramadan in the Umm al-Qura calendar. The actual start may shift by ±1 day in your country depending on local moonsighting; treat the date as approximate until your local committee announces.
What is the difference between the Hijri and Gregorian calendars?
The Gregorian calendar is solar with 365.25 days/year; the Hijri (Islamic) calendar is lunar with 354 or 355 days/year. The Hijri year is therefore 10–11 days shorter, which is why Ramadan and Eid shift earlier each Gregorian year.
How do I convert a date from Gregorian to Hijri?
Use the converter on this page. Pick the Gregorian → Hijri tab, choose the date, and click Convert. The result shows the day-of-week, day, month name and Hijri year.
Why does my Hijri date sometimes differ by a day from Saudi Arabia?
The day of Eid (and other observances) is often determined by physical moonsighting, which can lag or lead the Umm al-Qura calculated date by 24 hours. Always defer to your local Islamic authority for ritual observances.
