Frequently asked

How accurate are the prayer times shown here?
PocketQuran computes prayer times locally using the same astronomical formulas mosques rely on (the Adhan calculation library). Times are accurate to within a minute when your location and calculation method are set correctly. Always cross-check the first time you use a new method against your local mosque.
Which calculation method should I choose?
Pick the method used by your local masjid. As a guide: Saudi Arabia uses Umm al-Qura; the UAE uses Dubai; Egypt and most of Africa use the Egyptian method; the US and Canada use ISNA; the UK and Europe often use the Muslim World League (MWL); Pakistan, India and Bangladesh use Karachi. If unsure, MWL is the most widely accepted default.
What is the difference between Standard and Hanafi madhhab here?
The madhhab toggle changes Asr only. The Hanafi madhhab calculates Asr later — when an object’s shadow is twice its length, versus once for the Standard (Shafi/Maliki/Hanbali) view. All other prayer times are identical between the two.
Does this work without an internet connection?
Calculations run entirely in your browser, so once the page is open you don’t need internet. The reverse-geocoder that turns coordinates into a city name does need network — if it fails we fall back to showing the raw latitude and longitude.
Why are my prayer times slightly off from Google?
Google often uses a single global default that ignores madhhab and regional method preferences. Our calculation method dropdown lets you match your local masjid exactly. If your time is consistently off by 5–10 minutes, switch to a different method (often MWL → ISNA or Umm al-Qura).
Is the location data sent anywhere?
No. Your coordinates stay on your device. They’re used to compute prayer times in JavaScript and to look up your city name through OpenStreetMap’s public Nominatim service — we never store, log or transmit your location ourselves.
Can I get notifications on my browser before each prayer?
Web push notifications for prayer times are coming soon. For reliable notifications today — including the Fajr alarm that pierces Do Not Disturb — install the PocketQuran mobile app on Android (or iOS, when launched).
